Log #7 - Recommend this book

After reading this book I really wanted to recommend this book to another friend, especially friends who don’t crack books.
Actually, I was recommended this book from a friend. My first impression of this book was ok; I read this book mostly because of my friend’s recommendation.
My thoughts in the beginning and my thoughts after finishing the book were totally different. There were thrills, happiness, sorrows and moving through out the story. This book is for teenagers; it has put our thoughts and feelings into the characters.
I found out that this book was a famous book around teenagers and is still loved, even though it was first published 40 years ago.

Log #6 - Read another book by the writer

It was interesting that I didn’t get bored reading this book all along. Usually I get bored reading and sometimes day dreaming while I read. In the back of this book there is this interview with the author, ‘Speaking with S. E. Hinton’ and by reading it made me have more interests in this author. I already have gotten a recommend book by this author, That was then, this is now. I’m looking forward reading this book!

Log #5 - My favorite character

My favorite character is Sodapop who is Ponyboy's second oldest brother. It's also the character who Ponyboy loves. He understands people almost everything, has a grin which makes people grin and a movie-star looking. I think every girl would like him.
However there is on thing I don’t like about Sodapop and it’s that he dropped school because he thought that he was dumb. I don't think that's a reasonable answer; he should have had more endurance and tried a little bit harder.
I like how Sodapop takes care of Ponyboy with love and always understand Ponyboy’s words.

Log #4 - My favorite part of the book

My favorite part of The Outsiders was the last part where Ponyboy find a note from Johnny in the book, Gone with the Wind. It was really touching and it made me understand how Ponyboy felt. I especially liked the part where Johnny says :
“I’ve been thinking about it, and that poem, that guy that wrote it, he meant you’re gold when you’re a kid, like green. When you’re a kid everything’s new, dawn. It’s just when you get used to everything that it’s day. Like the way you dig sunsets, Pony. That’s gold. Keep that way, it’s a good way to be.
It's telling Ponyboy to live a good life and there are lots of good in the world.
I always thought Johnny was a loser which he always gets hit by “the Socs” however by reading this sentence it made me think again about Johnny and how he is warm and thoughtful.

Log #3 - Personal Connections

The book used teenager’s psychology so it was easy to have connections with the book. The main characters have totally different environment from me but still I could understand how they felt in situations.
Rumbles, death of friends and running away with guilty were some things that I thought and felt in the character’s shoes.
It made me think again about my identity and how I should live as a teenager.

Log #2 - Good Beginnings

The beginning starts off with an incident that sort of tells about whats going on in this story. It was a really good start absorbing the readers.
By introducing the characters in the beginning, was clear for me to understand about them.
What I like about the characters was that they all had different personalities. The description of each character's personality was very detailied and exciting.
The beginning of this book make more readers want to read more and I felt more that this is a book for teenagers.

Log #1 - Pre-reading

The Outsiders
S.E. HINTON

When I first heard the title "The Outsiders", I anticipated that the story would be interesting. The word 'outsiders' felt mysterious and it made me think that the theme would be like these 'outsiders' changing the world.
Then when I got the book, the cover looked dark and gloomy. There are these 4 boys who are all looking at different sides and having a face of either anger or sadness. I was guessing the plot would be conflicts between the 4 boys.
The blurb was talking about friendship therefore, I think it would be a good book for teenagers who are interested in friendship. I'm eager to begin!:)
